But whats with all this paranoia?

On June 9 th , the government of Zimbabwe, through one Chief Superintended G. Moyo, signing off as “Officer Commanding Police, Harare Central District”, wrote back to a local civil society organization, Heal Zimbabwe, formally rejecting the latter’s notified intention to “…hold a candle lighting commemoration of Dr Alex Magaisa..” in Harare.   The excuse given by the authorities, is that the convener (Heal Zimbabwe) failed to comply with Section 7 (1) a of the Maintenance of Peace and Order Chapter 11:23 which reads: “(a) seven days before the date on which a procession or public demonstration is to be held, give notice of the procession or public demonstration in writing signed by him or her to the regulating authority for the district in which the procession or public demonstration is to be held;” For argument’s sake, the interpretation would be that the convener failed to notify the authorities in time, as prescribed by this law. Tribute to Sekuru Alex Tawanda Magaisa

"Mhofu, ko Alex aita sei?” ”hindava?” “He’s no more…Check your twitter” Today was just another random Sunday, and I was not doing much social media. Spent most of my morning in church, though at the same time, deep in thoughts over some work assignments that I needed to attend to. Just as church ended, and I unlocked my phone to see what had been happening since morning, only to greeted by a message from a close friend, both trying to confirm and notify me of tragic news that left me shell-shocked beyond comprehension. In the midst of my personal despair, I still felt a need to pen a little tribute, to a gentle giant, who has meant so much to me. Yet…words fail me. I’m certain many more are feeling the same. It can only be worse for his children and family. For his closest friends.  “Chamisa has no plan”- An expression of political illiteracy The Shona people have a famous saying “mukutanda makudo, ndimo mukunhonga hohwa”. The direct English translation will be that “you may find food, whilst focused on chasing away baboons from the field.” The lesson behind this ancient wisdom is that it is when one is laboring, that they are likely to stumble across something more desirable. Perhaps RnB listeners would link this to the immortal words of Rihanna who sang, “…we found love in a hopeless place”. For me, both best describe political developments post January 24th 2022, when Nelson Chamisa addressed a presser, formally introducing the CCC party to the world. After years of uncertainty, the new was born. I’m sure for many of his ardent followers, it was a bitter-sweet moment as it meant an end of a 22 years long relationship with MDC, while at the same time being the long awaited “signal”. DEFECTIONS, LESSONS and REFLECTIONS

The Zimbabwean citizens have become accustomed to a particular trend, in the never ending festive of absurdities that has characterized MDC politics since the demise of Morgan Richard Tsvangirai in February 2018. A detailed recollection of what transpired, up to the Supreme Court Judgement of 2020 serves no purpose to this opinion piece. The long and short of it all is that the judgement once again split the MDC into two factions, the weaker one reconfiguring as the MDC-T, while the larger one continued to trend as the MDC- ALLIANCE. But to indulge the reader on the “particular trend” highlighted earlier, the drama that has seen counter claims of ownership of the party name, elected officials, party property, with Leaders crossing floors between the two factions, now distinct parties. Yet what has caught many by surprise, has been the defection to ZanuPF, of two big wigs from the two parties, Senator Temvious and Hon Blessed Chebundo, MDC stalwarts of repute, until recently. THE MDC-ALLIANCE DEBACLE

I found myself watching a random Douglas Mwonzora interview on Youtube this evening. What I immediately found intriguing was his ability to substantiate his arguments with laws and documents which are otherwise supposed to support his lines of argument. What I found ridiculous and hilariously sad however, is the fact that quotes none-existing provisions, and jumps from one narrative to the other, with the journalists who interview him, allowing him to do so. As I patiently watched the whole interview, I felt compelled to write this short response, in light of some of the MDC-T lies and half-truths, which I found to ridiculous to ignore. After all, a lie told too often might very well become the acceptable truth. Douglas Mwonzora needs to realize that whereas he and his colleagues are entitled to their own opinions, they are not entitled to their own facts.
